Why MokoBoko Studio moved to TimiTomi

MokoBoko (opens in a new tab) is a boutique pilates studio in Lisbon. It used to run its bookings on Acuity Scheduling, which is built for appointments, and a class is not an appointment. Its founder, Karina Supeyeva, answers nine questions about the move.

What is the studio, and how long has it been running?

MokoBoko Studio (opens in a new tab) is a boutique fitness studio in Lisbon, open for two and a half years. We keep the classes small, so everybody gets attention. Stretching is what we are known for, and we also run mat Pilates, barre and HIIT.

We have been on TimiTomi for over a year.

What were you using before, and how did the bookings reach you?

WhatsApp, at the start. Everybody starts there. Somebody sent us a message, we wrote the name down, and that was the booking.

It works while you run one class a day. Then it stops working. Messages came at midnight, on Sunday, and in the middle of everything else I was doing. Somebody asked for a spot, I said yes, and later I had to remember whether they had paid. Sometimes two of us answered the same message and the same spot went out twice.

Then we moved to Acuity Scheduling.

Did you look at the other platforms?

We did. Almost all of them wanted a call with a sales person before they would show us anything. And on the call they kept adding more features on top.

We just wanted to set the thing up ourselves and get on with it.

A Tuesday of classes with spots left, an instructor substituted, and a payment updating on its own.

What finally made you move?

Booking on Acuity was hard for our customers, and it was not going to grow with us.

The first thing we loved about TimiTomi is that people can book without making an account. In the first months our booking conversion went up about 35% compared to Acuity. It is simply cleaner. People work out how to book a class, buy a pack and manage their bookings in a few seconds.

How long did moving everything over take, and what moved?

It was easy. The TimiTomi team moved our classes, our class packs and our memberships for us.

We asked a lot of questions and they answered all of them. When we find a bug they fix it fast.

A booking confirmation, credits added to an account, and a class pack with two classes left.

What changed for the customers, and what do the reviews say?

The wow factor. People kept telling us how easy it is.

We have reviews on Google where people say that booking at our studio is easier than at any other studio in Lisbon.

What changed for you, in the back office?

Everything is automatic now. We do not have to think about it.

The payment side surprised me the most. There are so many small cases we never thought about, like a card that gets declined in the middle of a membership, and TimiTomi handles it. The emails, the SMS, the offers, all of it runs on its own, day and night.

What still does not work, or still annoys you?

That we did not move sooner.

What would you tell an owner sitting where you were?

Get a tool and automate your studio. This one or another one, it matters less than people think.

You do not grow while you are sitting there managing every class and every instructor by hand. When that part runs on its own, you can spend your time on growing.

Go and look for yourself

MokoBoko (opens in a new tab)’s booking page runs on TimiTomi. Yours would work the same way and look like yours: your classes, your prices, your logo and your colours.
